We thought we were in for a couple of epic derby encounters this weekend and we got value for our money in the North London derby at least. Spurs’ starlet and one of the hottest players in the Premier League at the moment, Harry Kane scored two poacher’s goals to upset Arsenal at White Hart Lane. Can Liverpool stop the Hurri-Kane tomorrow night?
The Merseyside derby wasn’t really all that. Quite disappointing to the crackers we’ve seen between the reds and blues the last couple of seasons, actually. Everton did not look a threat until Ross Barkley came on and Liverpool, well, they struggle with the finishing skills of Sterling. One positive Liverpool has to take from the goalless draw was the performance by 19-year old Jordan Ibe at right wing. Don’t be surprised to see Ibe frequent that position in the games to come.
Elsewhere in the premiership, bottom-placed Leicester could not find the net at home against Crystal Palace. Ledley secured the winner for Palace on a rare opportunity after a corner, but the big talking point after the match was Leicester manager Nigel Pearson and his scrap with James McArthur. Pearson was tripped on the sideline and appeared to almost put a chokehold on McArthur afterwards. This might have been the last we get to see by Pearson in the Premier league. At least for now.
Affordable yes, but Nugent missed a couple of sitters this weekend
This round also saw the return of Fergie-time goals as both Manchester United, Manchester City and Southapton grabbed overtime goals. Saints win away at QPR was a massive one, although perhaps not deserved. Still in third place, Southampton, and we’re still looking for them to fall from grace. It might not happen as they bounced straight back from their defeat against Swansea. They face West Ham at home on Wednesday night as big favourites.
